Welcome to our first newsletter for term 2; we are already well into a busy time of the school year, with NAPLAN tests completed, many of our senior students out on internships one day a week, and interesting work happening in and out of classes across the school.

Our annual school report for 2016 has been completed and presented to staff and the school board for endorsement. It will shortly be available from the Schools Online website or the school office. This report is part of our cycle of Review > Reflect > Act, as we measure our progress against attendance, achievement and engagement targets in order to continually improve.

During weeks one and two of this term, Mrs Reeves and I were fortunate enough to have the amazing opportunity to visit some Big Picture schools in the USA. We joined a group of 13 other teachers and administrators from WA, the eastern states and New Zealand to participate in a study tour for leaders in Big Picture schools.

Next time I write an article for our TGIF I hope to share with you some highlights of my upcoming trip to Tasmania next week. I look forward to catching up with everyone when I get back! Filipino independence day is held on Friday 2 June this year and we will be sampling food from the Philippines as well as learning about the history of their independence along with some traditional games and music.

As the first term draws to a close it is great to see that the vast majority of our students have settled well into the school year. Walking around the school it is terrific to see the buzz of activity in classes, sports grounds, swimming pools, and feedback from teachers and students indicates that many of our Year 9 and 10 students are actively engaging in their specialist classes and their internship program.

The national assessment Program – literacy and numeracy (NAPLAN) is the annual assessment for all students in Years 7 and 9. NAPLAN tests are done in reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. This year all tests will be completed during Term 2 between Tuesday 9th May and Friday 19 May.
