Nurse's News - November 2018

A note from the community health nurse

I have had the pleasure of working within Yule Brook College for almost a year and have met so many wonderful staff and students. Just a little reminder that we never have to go through things by ourselves, we all need someone to lean on sometimes especially with the holiday period fast approaching us. Feel free to stop by any time say hello; I love to have a chat.
A little bit about what I do here:
School health nurses work in partnership with schools to provide a free and confidential service. The role of the school health service is to promote healthy development and wellbeing, helping students to reach their full potential. The school health service is an easy way for students to access information regarding nutrition, body image, self-esteem, relationships, mental health, drugs and alcohol and much more.
What type of services are available?
  • Information and support for student and families to help make an
    informed decision about their health
  • School immunisation programmes
  • Referral to other health professionals as required
  • Student health assessments (vision, hearing and development)
  • Supporting the development of health care plans
  • Health advice

To access the school nurse students can make their own appointments by speaking with the nurse or student services. Alternatively you can just drop in to see me when the health centre is open.

The transition to high school can be an exciting time for families. Unfortunately it can also be a time of anxiety and challenges for some. To support your child during this time it is encouraged to speak to them often about what to expect and how they are feeling.
