Tenth anniversary of Advisory Dinners

We reached another important milestone in the history of Yule Brook this week. This year it was the tenth anniversary of our Advisory dinners. This is a celebration of our partnership with the families who are enrolled at YBC. Yule Brook College is an independent public school with a Big Picture focus of ‘one student at a time’.

At Yule Brook College we have a philosophy of families being enrolled, too. On this night families are invited to share a meal and come along to meet and greet and build a strong relationship with the staff at the school. Families play an important role in the education of their child.

While teachers are experts in teaching, you’re the expert on your child. You know what stimulates, bores and interests them, what they’re good at and what they struggle with. You know your child’s learning style and you also know if there are any other issues going on that might be affecting their learning at school. Your input is valuable when working with your child’s learning plan to ensure we can tailor their learning to address all aspects of their education.

Advisory dinners, learning plan meetings and exhibitions are a great opportunity to communicate with your child’s Advisor and hear how your child is tracking academically and socially. However, they are also a great way to discuss any questions or opportunities you want the school to provide for your child. With many meeting opportunities coming up it is important that you take the time to attend. There are also lots of other ways to stay in touch and to create a positive two-way relationship, including email, phone calls or by adding comments to a homework/ communications book. In a nutshell if we work together we can ensure that your child receives the best possible education.

The Advisory dinner/ learning plan evening saw a fantastic number of families engage in the process. Thanks to all who attended and I am sure you found the information valuable. Dinner was delicious too, thank you, Miss Bettridge, Buffie and Mrs Wilfing.

Please feel free to contact the school on 9251 8333 to discuss any issues with your child’s Advisor or ask for Mr Steve Meredith (team leader, Teamwork) or myself and we will answer any query you may have.
