Sue's snippets from the nurse

I would like to encourage all parents to attend the drug and alcohol information session at Yule Brook College that the School Drug Education and Road Aware are conducting. Research tells us that the adolescent brain is very susceptible to alcohol and so the recommendation is that no one under the age of 18 should take any alcohol at all. Please come along and get up to date information and strategies to discuss this topic with your adolescent.

Are you concerned about the impact of alcohol and other drugs on your children?

Parents, teachers and school staff have a crucial role to play in the prevention of young people’s risk of harm from alcohol and other drugs.

School Drug Education and Road Aware (SDERA) invite you to attend a FREE Talking Drugs information session. This session will help you understand the real picture of illicit drug use and the role you play in school drug education. You will learn how to open up a dialogue with children of all ages about drugs and where to go for help with a drug-related problem.

Aerosols at school

Just a reminder to everyone that there is to be NO spraying of aerosols (e.g. deodorants and body sprays) on school grounds at all, particularly in classrooms and closed rooms like bathrooms and change rooms. The aerosols can trigger asthma attacks and allergies. This ban is to protect students and staff.

Meningococcal W vaccines

The Health Department has decided to offer this vaccine to all year 10, 11 and 12 students due to the increasing number of students in the 15 to 19 year old age group. Vaccination consent forms have been handed out to all year 10 students. Please return these forms as soon as possible and let me know if you need another copy.

If your child is anaphylactic they need to carry with them at all times their own epipen and have an up to date action plan. Please contact the Health Centre if you would like to discuss your child’s condition or update us.
